Artist's Comments

Emma Watson (Best known as Hermione from Harry Potter) Found a new trick in making a much stronger contrast, I suppose it doesn’t mean anything over the internet as that can all be fixed with photoshop, but in person the blacks are a black as it is with oil paint, and just as deep.

Art is an interesting thing. The piece itself always has something to say, it is a piece of someone’s heart expressed, if it doesn’t have the heart, its just work not art. As such it can say a lot about the artist, looked at long enough you can see into the persons technique, use of time, patients, left or right hand (even arm length), how they felt, perhaps what they where going through, what they need, what they lack, what they desire, the way they simply see what they where trying to capture and so on. However there is a side of art often forgotten, its reflection of the viewer. Art can also be a mirror.

Its not dependent on the piece alone, but rather the viewer as well and where they are at in their life. The same piece can say a thousand different things to a thousand different people, or all to the same one man, and change tomorrow. A strong piece often has the exact same reaction from everyone who views it, though not always, really depends on what was being said. But as with anything that effects you, you can look into your emotions and what you feel and learn something about yourself if you are only willing to take the time to look. Everything speaks, and when something draws an emotion in you, if you listen you begin to learn why you are who you are. Questions are the seeds of answers.

It is why art is such a large part of our lives, weather we realize it consciously or not, it always speaks to us. Sometimes loudly, sometimes softly, even if you feel the piece does nothing for you, you have felt that, and as such can look to see why you feel it does nothing for you.

I’ll be blunt; nothing I have ever posted here I have really done for anyone. I draw these reflections because of my needs, and what I see, and as such I can truly grasp whom I am deeper and there by understand my needs better. And as an extra benefit I have a physical expression of that and that desire that I can one day give to whom it all reflected. And that is no small thing.

With that being said I invite you to take the opportunity to look at an expression of mine and see what it says to you. I make no claims of it being anything, I will only compare it to my previous works, anything else would be arrogant for me to do. Learning to listen to what art has to say can be a life changing thing, as you have learned to dive much deeper into your subconscious that before, each and every time you take the time to look and listen.

Since it hinders the ability to listen once someone tells you what they see (their voice speaks too to you, no longer just the piece), I’ve written why I drew these below, hidden. But I do suggest taking time to see what the pieces say for you before you read, some things can’t be unheard and art needs a first impression. (And again, I do not say my work is anything, just an example that can be used.)

Probably a good idea to write up a response if you want prior to reading this, as I said anyone’s input will effect yours even if subconsciously.

Emma Watson is simply beautiful. She actually takes up a third of a my gallery now. But why I find her such an interesting subject is something not everyone will see. There is a tremendous amount of power in her expressions, however it is very subtle, and very real. Often you cannot see what she is “saying” unless you take the time to listen,. Quick viewers of her work miss a great deal.

Both of these express the same emotion (Seen and Unseen). Ironically the more powerful one (where she is looking at you) took me a while to see, it struck me instantly with its power but I didn’t understand it at first. Perhaps it was because of the framing of the original photo; she was sitting on a scooter outside, it was for a fashion magazine even, in all honesty there didn’t seem to be anything special about it. Still something about her look really caught my attention. Thankfully the picture was in the 3000+ pixel range and I was able to really look close. My initial reaction was her being scared, which is a part of the emotion.

The emotion is heart break.

It is a look that speaks greatly to me personally. In that one she looks if she is looking onto whom is breaking her heart. The fear, the pain and the lonesomeness are all under a calm surface, but her lip slightly quivers to find a voice that has gone and her eyes scream what her heart cannot.

I am not a man who looks at a broken heart like this sadly, in fact in some odd way I find comfort in it. I’m a man who can smile with a mouth full of blood, and have proven that. These reflections remind me of where I have been, where I am, and where I am going. To remember what I have been through helps me to embrace all that is to come in its fullness. To forget our scars is to forgo all that was learned, the blackest blacks will help you to truly see how white the purest whites really are. Without the contrast, how could you ever truly know?

And yes, a lot of what I have written here is personal, but that is art for you: personal.

The right piece of art with the right piece of music can make the two exponentially stronger than what they are on their own.

Personally I have found the song “So I thought”- by Flyleaf to be an extremely powerful combination.

Just hit the big red play button.

This work is very good to me - I don't think "Emma Watson" when I see this. I just see a woman too young to know how to mask how nakedly personal a direct gaze can be. The contrast effect is awesome :)

If you must drink and draw, please do so responsibly.

very nice~ well expressed, there is a quote of a flower who's beauty is only seen in the rain but i cannot think of it at this moment.

The taste of your kerosene lips burn me up.

Thank you, and thanks for the +fav too.

In my personal experience when a gaze like that is given, its wanting to be heard. But nakedly personal certaintly fits it. ^_^
